Performer: Original Cast Recording/Original Soundtrack/Jay Blackton
Artist: Robert Ryan; Nanette Fabray
Producer: Hugh Fordin (Reissue)
Distributor: E1 Distribution (USA)

Notes: Music and lyrics by Irving Berlin. Composer/Lyricist: Irving Berlin. Personnel: Jack Washburn, Jerry Strickler, Wisa d'Orso, Charlotte Fairchild, Stanley Grover, David Brooks, Jack Haskell, Anita Gillette. Arranger: Jack Elliott. Irving Berlin's first Broadway show in 12 years also turned out to be his last. Berlin and book writers Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse had succeeded in 1950 by using a Washington political background in Call Me Madam, but when they turned to the presidency, their story was too busy, their approach too trendy (Irving Berlin takes on the Twist!), and Berlin simply didn't write a memorable score. The show played out its large advance sale, then closed. Now it's a historical footnote, its cast album, featuring Nanette Fabray as the First Lady, well-sung but still second-rate Berlin. ~ William Ruhlmann
