Although Flat Duo Jets remain an ongoing proposition, the Dex Romweber Duo is different enough in its intent that RUINS OF BERLIN little resembles Dex Romweber's other band. Romweber and his drummer sister Sara Romweber (formerly of '80s college radio faves Let's Active and Snatches of Pink) blend film noir jazz a la Henry Mancini with reverb-heavy twang rockers, heartbreaking country love songs, and dramatic ballads. The "duo" part of the name is not overlooked, as Sara steps to the mike for a haunting, torchy "Love Letters."
Spin (p.79) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[I]t's fevered outbursts like 'Lookout' and 'Grey Skies,' where Dex unleashes his slightly sloshed voice and surfabilly guitar, that has real soul-saving potential."
