Arrangers: Rudy Costa; Kwasi Dzidzornu; Ray Fitzpatrick; Robert Greenidge; Taj Mahal; Kester Smith; Larry McDonald. West coast bluesman Taj Mahal was tapped to provide the soundtrack for the 1977 film BROTHERS, which was based on the lives of activists George Jackson and (despite the title) Angela Davis. While much of the album, particularly "Brother's Doin' Time," is in a similar vein to what Taj was doing on his own projects of the time (like EVOLUTION, or SATISFIED N' TICKLED TOO), he does take the opportunity to stretch out a little bit, and many of the tracks feature extended instrumental vamps that dig into a distinctly jazzy vibe.
