Performer: Mya
Artist: Young Jeezy; Ginuwine; Pastor Troy; Tommy Redding; G. Dep; Loon Distributor: E1 Distribution (USA) Notes: Though she distinguished herself as one of the more versatile and compelling R&B singers of the early `00s, Mya's presence on R&B radio diminished sharply in the latter half of the decade. After the relative commercial disappointment of 2007's LIBERATION (which didn't even see an American release), Mya left Universal Motown for Manhattan Records and recorded the uncharacteristically low-key SUGAR & SPICE in 2008. Though 2009's BEST OF BOTH WORLDS is far more of a mixtape than a Mya album, it at least finds the singer sounding more comfortable than she has in years, particularly on the gently propulsive "Like Me." Though Mya's contributions here are the most notable, the remainder of THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS features compelling tracks from Bone Thugs `N Harmony, Mobb Deep, Ginuwine, and Gucci Mane.
A dancer turned singer, Mya unleashed her self-titled debut at the ripe old age of 18 in 1998. That attention-grabbing debut album contained collaborations with some of the top '90s urban artists, including Babyface, Dru Hill, Missy Misdemeanor Elliot, and Wyclef Jean.
