Notes: The second collection of hit singles by one of contemporary country's most popular male singers is every bit as solid as Chesney's first best-of set. Although Chesney adopted a slightly different musical style during the period covered here--a wayfarer beach bum persona heavily influenced by Jimmy Buffett--these songs stress the craft and songwriting smarts at the core of his work. Chesney's music, as evinced on II, is a mingling of Buffett-style island tunes, soft rock, country, and pop, an agreeable mixture best heard on singles like these.
