Throughout his 60-year career, Oscar Peterson combined incredible technique with a user-friendly lyricism, both on the recordings and performances he led and backing assorted vocal and instrumentalist peers such as Lester Young and Ella Fitzgerald. The Resonance Big Band takes 11 tunes composed by or associated with Peterson and dresses them in stirring orchestral garb. As icing on a rather tasty cake, the pianist is up-and-coming talent Marian Petrescu, and all concerned pay a nice homage to Peterson.
