In fact, this CD plus DVD compilation actually includes winners of world-wide carnival competitons held throughout 2008. The relentless pace never flags, as percolating, electronically treated Trinidadian rhythms (with an occasional steel drum in the mix) are pumped out behind soca legends like Edwin Yearwood, whose "Handle Ya Bizniz" kicks things off in frenetic fashion, and Patrice Roberts, whose lilting "Looking Hott" provides an anthem among anthems with lyrics like "Good rhythm is all I want to keep me looking real sweet!" Elsewhere, dancehall king Beenie Man joins soca master Buji Garlin for an intriguing Island summit on "Plenty Gal." The DVD includes seven videos as well as other special features.
