Performer: Various Artists
Producer: Ying Tan... Distributor: City Hall Notes: Groove Note Records began releasing jazz and blues recordings in 2005. They've also expanded their vision and have begun to re-release rare tracks by vintage artists such as Illinois Jacquet, and look to genre bending vocalists for excellent music coming from the jazz and blues traditions. This second sampler of the label's wares contains tracks by many the artists in their roster, including soul jazz guitarist Anthony Wilson, balladeer Jacinta, blues artist Jay McShann, the modern day samba of Eden Atwood, and some beautiful straight-ahead work by saxophonist Bennie Wallace. In addition to the excellent performances, Groove Note is an audiophile label with the highest production standards, making this set a second excellent introduction to a still up and coming label.
