Performer: Tangerine Dream
Producer: Edgar Froese; Jerome Froese Distributor: n/a Notes: Tangerine Dream: Jerome Froese, Edgar Froese. Recorded at Eastgate Studios, Vienna, Austria in April 1995. Dream Mixes One by Tangerine Dream was released in single- and double-disc versions, both of them in 1995. This is the single-disc, and judging from its pristine sound, its seamless beats, and its reliance on slowly shifting atmospheres that are all of one mood, the two-disc version is more than likely completely unnecessary. It's not that there is anything particularly wrong with what's here. It's just that by trying to update their own sound instead of licensing the tracks to DJS for inclusions on compilations, they were working from a terrain they may have recognized as their own but really knew nothing about. The music is pleasant, atmospheric, and has plenty of hypnotic rhythm so it would be great for cycling or the treadmill, but as for sitting down and listening to this? That's hard to imagine. ~ Thom Jurek
An inspiration to subsequent generations of electronic artists, Tangerine Dream pioneered the ambient use of synthesizers in a rock format. Part of the German psychedelia ("krautrock") explosion of the late '60s/early '70s, the group mutated over the years to a more rhythmic sound, eventually providing soundtrack music for many films.
