Southern gospel giant Bill Gaither developed a music empire by gathering a family of artists under the Gaither banner, creating a best-selling brand which assured fans that when they bought Gaither, they were buying high-quality churchin' music in a wide variety of styles with an infallibly positive message. With NASHVILLE HOMECOMING, Gaither brings the show to the famed Grand Ole Opry. Not surprisingly, a few country and bluegrass music artists are included in the proceedings, including superstars the Gatlin Brothers and the Oak Ridge Boys, as well as lesser-known Gaither regulars the Isaacs. Highlights include a heart-achingly soulful take on "I Just Came to Talk With You Lord" by the late, great gospel songwriting legend Dottie Rambo, and the Gatlins' old-time harmonizing on "In the Upper Room." Throughout, the mood is joyful and celebratory, with a down home feel accentuated by mandolins, fiddles, and tinkling Floyd Cramer-style piano.
Bill Gaither is one of the most prominent figures in the long history of Southern gospel music. The Indiana-born singer/songwriter/entrepreneur made his initial mark on the genre with his Gaither Vocal Band and Bill Gaither Trio; however, his most profound influence on the gospel has come via his Gaither Family Homecoming releases and concerts. The long-running series, co-captained by his wife, Gloria, has been paramount in the revival of traditional Southern gospel, and has helped to reinvigorate the careers of classic singers and groups as well as launching those of some of the biggest names in gospel and CCM. Gaither's Homecoming empire includes books, DVDs, and CDs that total in the hundreds.
