Performer: Nightmares on Wax

As one of the first acts signed to the U.K.'s famed Warp label, Nightmares on Wax (the duo of Kevin Harper and George Evelyn) were instrumental in ushering in the golden era of U.K. dance and electronic music of the late 1980s and early '90s. The pair combined four-on-the-floor club beats with elements of funk, jazz, dub, and hip-hop and helped inspire myriad new dance hybrids such as trip-hop, drum& bass, and IDM. Harper left in the early 1990s; however, Evelyn continued using the name and later brought live instrumentation into his ever creative mix. Evelyn's flirtations with hip-hop reached a creative peak in 2002 when he collaborated with De La Soul on the EP SOUND OF THE N.O.W.
