Performer: Heart
Producer: Ron Nevison Distributor: EMI Music Distribution Notes: Originally released on Capitol. Heart followed up their smash 1985 self-titled comeback album with another big seller, 1987's BAD ANIMALS. Producer Ron Nevison was back behind the mixing desk, and the Wilson sisters scored again with an album chock full of prime pop rock tracks. Highlights include the power ballads "Alone" and "Wait for an Answer," as well as the harder rocking cuts "You Ain't Too Tough" and "Easy Target." Again, singer Ann Wilson turns in a superb vocal performance, confirming her unfortunate status as one rock's all-time underrated singers. With their previous self-titled album and BAD ANIMALS, Heart became one of the '80s biggest rock comeback stories.
Led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, Heart struck a crucial blow for feminisim in the male-dominated world of '70s rock. They could switch from powerful, Zeppelin-like grandeur to gorgeous acoustic ballads in the blink of an eye and turned out a stream of radio staples. By the '80s, they were churning out slick pop, but the sisters re-emerged in the '90s in stripped-down acoustic duo format as the Lovemongers.
