Performer: Heart
Distributor: Sony Music Distribution ( Notes: 2 LPS on 1 CD Engineers include: Mike Flicker, Rob Perkins, Brian Foraker. Recorded live at The Forum, Los Angeles, California; The Coliseum, Phoenix, Arizona; The Aladdin Theater, Las Vegas, Nevada; The Coliseum, Seatle, Washington; Sports Arena, San Diego, California and McNichols Arena, Denver, Colorado in August & September 1980. Heart's second release of the 1980's was the best-of collection GREATEST HITS, half of which consisted of their classic studio hits, the other of songs recorded live in concert. If you've listened to rock radio since the late-'70s, you'll be very familiar with such FM classics as the Led Zep riffer "Barracuda," the tasty acoustic/electric guitar blend of "Crazy on You," the prog rock-esque "Magic Man," and the beautiful ballad "Dog and Butterfly," among others. The live side showcases the band's in-concert talents, as proven by the rocker "Bebe Le Strange," and a fun tribute to Zeppelin's late drummer John Bonham, "Rock and Roll."
Led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, Heart struck a crucial blow for feminisim in the male-dominated world of '70s rock. They could switch from powerful, Zeppelin-like grandeur to gorgeous acoustic ballads in the blink of an eye and turned out a stream of radio staples. By the '80s, they were churning out slick pop, but the sisters re-emerged in the '90s in stripped-down acoustic duo format as the Lovemongers.
