Performer: Various Artists
Distributor: Bayside Record Dist. Notes: THE BEST OF SOUTHERN ROCK includes bonus tracks. Compilation producers: Bill Crowley, Howard Smiley. Rebound's The Best of Southern Rock comes damn close to fulfilling the promise of the title. Although the Kentucky Headhunters sound a little bit out of place in this '70s-centric collection, the rest of the collection fits together perfectly -- any compilation that features "Ramblin' Man," "Hold on Loosely," "Champagne Jam," "Keep on Smilin'," "Sweet Home Alabama," "If You Want to Get to Heaven," "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky," "Midnight Rider," "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," "Let Me Love You Tonight," and "If I'd Been the One" is far and away a first-class sampler. The fact that it's available at a budget price makes it all the more remarkable. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
