Notes: LIFE (IS SO STRANGE) was originally released on RCA records in 1983 and was War's final album before their 1995 return to the studio with PEACE SIGN. Recorded at Far Out Studios, Los Angeles, California. Audio Remixer: John Fischbach. Illustrator: Lou Beach. War kept battling in the mid-'80s, switching labels and trying different producers in an attempt to maintain their viability. This was the second of two albums they recorded for RCA, and they were unable to sustain the comeback begun with the previous album. The title track was a moderate success, but by now they sounded weary and uninspired. The same was true for their production, arrangements, and compositions, as well as past strengths like group interplay, musical support, and solos. ~ Ron Wynn
First as a backing band for Eric Burdon, and then on its own, multi-cultural band War played true "world music" years before the term was coined. The group pioneered a blend of soul, R&B, funk, Latin, jazz and African music, and even managed to have several hit singles along the way. Harmonica player Lee Oskar recorded several notable solo albums as well.
