Performer: Mills Brothers
Engineer: Don Blake Producer: Randy Wood Distributor: Welk Notes: Personnel includes: Jack Pleis (conductor). Recording information: Studio Masters. Arranger: Jack Pleis. This 1975 production finds the Mills Brothers in what seems like an unlikely genre for a group famous for its jazz-like vocal innovations. Yet like all great performers the Brothers' talents aren't fixed in one style or routine. This collection is an exciting departure from the group's standard works such as "Tiger Rag," "Paper Doll," and "Lazy River." The Mills Brothers turn out to be well suited to C&W. In fact, others artists' versions pale in comparison to the Brothers' full tones as they harmonize on treats like "Ramblin' Rose." The simple melodic structure and instrumental accompaniment here allow the singers to convey deep emotion. Their rich voices, in the crooning business for 45 years at the time of these recordings, smoothly convey these sentiments of longing and romance.
