Performer: Various Artists
Producer: David McLees (Compilation); Brian Chin (Compilation) Distributor: WEA (Distributor) Notes: Includes liner notes by Brian Chin. Audio Remasterers: Dan Hersch; Bill Inglot. Though it features some predictable choices, Rhino's Dance Floor Divas: The '70s is still an entertaining collection of songs from disco's most popular songbirds. Sister Sledge's "We Are Family," A Taste of Honey's "Boogie Oogie Oogie," Vicki Sue Robinson's "Turn the Beat Around," and Chic's "Le Freak" have appeared on countless other disco compilations, as have the Emotions' "Best of My Love" and Silver Convention's "Fly, Robin, Fly," but they still sound good despite their overexposure. And while Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Shame," Three Degrees' "When Will I See You Again," and Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots" aren't exactly obscure, their lower profile helps keep Dance Floor Divas: The '70s fresh and fun, instead of becoming another cookie-cutter best-of disco collection. ~ Heather Phares
