Recording information: Egyptian Room, New Orleans, LA (1996). Photographer: James Minchin. This quartet plays energetic, straight-ahead, but slightly quirky rock and roll. "Jenny Says" opens the disc with a guitar lick copped straight from '60s garage rock (Them's "I Can Only Give You Everything", to be specific), and pretty much sets the tone. "How Do You Tell Someone" asks the musical question: "How do you tell someone you don't love them? / How do you tell someone you don't care anymore?" The tune whirls around a steady foundation of quick-strummed acoustic guitar and tight drumming, finally resolving itself in a strangely joyous, repeated chorus. There are a few straight-up rocking rave-ups ("Light it On Fire"), but the general sound is sparse and bright. Cowboy Mouth come across as a kind of "cleaned-up" Georgia Satellites. ARE YOU WITH ME is good clean fun, for those who like their rock and roll with harmonized vocals, hooky choruses, and chiming guitars.
