Greatest Hits is a brief collection of Tommy Dorsey's best-known songs, including "Marie," "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," "The Song is You," and 15 other tracks. It's certainly not a complete collection, but it offers a nice cross-section of Dorsey's biggest hits and, in the process, it functions as a good sampler for novices and casual fans. ~ Thom Owens
Tommy Dorsey's trombone playing was admired across the board; his supremely polished tone could render a sentimental melody as evocative as any singer. His pop-oriented big band was among the best known of the '30s and '40s. While most popular for their ballads, they created their share of classic big-band swing arrangements as well. Dorsey also nurtured the talent of many fine singers--including a young Frank Sinatra.
