Charlie Daniels is a devout born-again Christian whose songs have often had a distinct sense of morality about them; for example, he's disowned his first big hit, 1973's "Uneasy Rider," because it glorifies drug use. However, it took until 1997's STEEL WITNESS for Daniels to record a full album of Christian music. The country gospel STEEL WITNESS skips the usual traditional hymns in favor of new Daniels tunes with fervid imagery and sentiment like "It's Payback Time," and "The New Pharisees," along with the more tender "Heart of My Heart." Gospel stars The Cox Family, Bob Carlisle and the Fairfield Four make guest appearances. Fans of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" or "The South's Gonna Do it Again" should make sure their religious beliefs coincide with Daniels' before purchase.
