EVERYWHERE starts out strong with "Where The Green Grass Grows," a rocking anthem for country living, guaranteed to make even city folks hum along. And though the album contains its fair share of up-tempo songs, the real treats here are the slower ballads. Tim McGraw may wear a big, imposing hat, but under the brim lies a sensitive soul. "It's Your Love" is a heartfelt torch song duet with Tim's wife, Faith Hill. Tim's strength stems from willingness to share his vulnerability. The title song tells the story of a past love, now hopelessly out of reach. The singer imagines her everywhere he's not. While the protagonist may never find this woman, no matter where she travels, it's likely to be difficult for her to avoid hearing at least one song off EVERYWHERE, so solid is the appeal of this proven hit-maker.
Entertainment Weekly (6/13/97, p.66) - "...In the two years since ALL I WANT's release, McGraw, 30, has become a millionaire, married country's Faith Hill, had a daughter, and gained respect as a producer...EVERYWHERE, reflects these changes....[it] chronicles a man in transition..." - Rating: B
A slow starter career-wise, Tim McGraw, son of baseball legend Tug McGraw, eventually became one of the biggest country stars of the new millennium. After several failed singles, his politically-incorrect novelty number, "Indian Outlaw," became his breakthrough hit. McGraw's highly emotional delivery, coupled with his high-energy stage show and his knack for selecting excellent material, shot him to the top of the country and the pop albums charts by the late '90s. After McGraw married fellow star Faith Hill, the two became an unstoppable force, scoring hit duets and armfuls of awards, and mounting a top-grossing joint tour.
