Nevertheless, this compilation condenses the band's catalog, including three brand new tracks, into 19 sparkling gems of country-pop, bound to please both longtime fans and curious first-timers. They're all here, from the band's stellar cover of the pop hit "My Maria" to beer-swiggin' jukebox faves like "Boot Scootin' Boogie" and "Honky Tonk Truth." What comes across most strongly on this album is the consistency of Brooks and Dunn's work, as it moves from house-rockin' uptempo numbers to sentimental ballads without losing a step. Every track features top-notch performances from great Nashville studio musicians, state-of-the-art production, and of course, the lilting harmonies of Brooks and Dunn. What more could a fan ask?
Entertainment Weekly (12/12/97, p.90) - "Second only to Simon & Garfunkel as the biggest-selling duo of all time, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn add three new songs to this package and come up winners again..." - Rating: A-
One of the most successful duos in country music history, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn were put together in the early 1990s by former Arista Nashville label boss Tim DuBois, who thought the two singer-songwriters' styles would complement each other. The duo's sound--a mix of country harmonies, pop, rock and honky-tonk--made them superstars in the '90s, where they dominated the Vocal Duo category at every awards show. After two decades of success, both with the critics and on the charts, the duo broke up in 2009.
