It had long been a dream for trombonist George Masso to record with some of his long-time friends from the New England area. This 1997 CD gave him an opportunity to realize his goal, heading a sextet also including trumpeter Lou Colombo (a strong underrated player), Dick Johnson on alto and clarinet, the great pianist Dave McKenna, bassist Marshall Wood and drummer Artie Cabral. The music they perform is essentially mainstream swing with a little bossa nova ("Triste") tossed in. In addition to some standards, this CD is noteworthy for the inclusion of a few obscurities and lesser-known material including "Remind Me," Masso's "Whenever That Gal Comes Around" and the title cut. The leader provided the arrangements while Colombo contributed many of the sparks. A fine outing. ~ Scott Yanow
