Performer: Accept
Producer: Stefan Kaufmann Distributor: BMG (distributor) Notes: Accept: Udo Dirkschneider (vocals); Wolf Hoffmann (guitar); Peter Baltes (bass); Stefan Kaufmann, Stefan Schwarzmann (drums). Singer Udo Dirkschneider left Accept in the late 1980s after expressing dissatisfaction with the band's new direction, which had been deemed more commercial. Accept soldiered on with a variety of different singers, while Dirkschneider fronted his solo band, Udo. Neither outfit lived up to the promise created by the original line-up, and by the 1990s, Dirkschneider and a few other original Accept members had reunited. After a late '90s farewell tour, a souvenir was released in the form of 1998's double disc THE FINAL CHAPTER. While maybe not as stellar as Accept's earlier live set, STAYING A LIFE (which featured Accept's dual guitar lineup-- CHAPTER features only a single guitarist), it includes all the hits you'd expect. Featured are thunderous renditions of such Accept warhorses as "Breaker," "Restless and Wild," "Metal Heart," "Fast as a Shark," and "Balls to the Wall."
Forming in Germany in 1971, Accept is lauded as one of the originators of the German heavy metal movement. Led by razorblade-gargling vocalist Udo Dirkschneider and guitar god Wolf Hoffmann, Accept took the melodic elements of fellow countrymen Scorpions and infused them with the back alley menace of AC/DC. This led to a string of Billboard Top 200 charting albums and the band's signature song in 1983, "Balls to the Wall." Since the late '80s, the members of Accept launched successful solo careers, but every now and again, they reunite to give the world another dose of streetwise aggression.
