To listen to sound clips, you'll need the most current version of the
Performer: Sonny & Cher
Distributor: Universal Distribution Notes: Personnel includes: Sonny Bono, Cher (vocals). All tracks have been digitally remastered. Producers: Snuff Garrett, Sonny Bono, Denis Pregnolato, Michel Rubini. Compilation producer: Todd Everett. Digitally remastered by Paul Elmore at MCA Music Media Studios, North Hollywood, California. This 16-track compilation brings together all the hits and important tracks from the second stage of success from the careers of Sonny and Cher. In signing with Kapp Records in 1970, Bono finally allowed an outside producer, in this case hitmaker "Snuff" Garrett, to assume the creative reigns. In doing so, he also got the duo back on the charts for an extended run. That comeback run is all chronicled here, with every Sonny and Cher and solo Cher track that charted aboard, along with some fun tracks like the album version of "The Greatest Show on Earth" and the live version of the duo's theme "I Got You Babe." Just as their '60s hits for Atlantic define their early sound and style, this second batch captures their 1970s period perfectly. ~ Cub Koda
Although touted as the misunderstood young lovers of 1965 folk-rock, Sonny Bono and Cher were not all their image suggested. Bono had a history in the music business stretching back to the late '50s, and became romantically attached to Cher, who was working as a backing singer. The duo found fame with 1965's transatlantic number 1, "I Got You Babe," and followed it up, as both a duo and soloists, with a formidable passel of hit singles. In the '70s they hosted their own television variety show, and Cher enjoyed a phenomenally successful acting and singing career, while Bono became a successful politician before dying in a skiing accident in 1998.
