The soundtrack to the Patrick Swayze/Randy Travis action flick Black Dog is fairly uneven, but a few songs -- including Travis' "My Greatest Fear," Steve Earle's "Nowhere Road," David Lee Murphy's "We Can't All Be Angels" and Rhett Akins' cover of Eddie Rabbitt's "Drivin' My Life Away" -- make the contemporary country collection worth a listen. ~ Thom Owens Patrick Swayze's rugged visage on the front may dissuade those with unhappy memories of Dirty Dancing and Roadhouse, but fear not; as far as this album goes, he's strictly a cover boy. In actuality, the BLACK DOG soundtrack serves as a comprehensive compilation of contemporary country (how's that for alliteration?). Whether your tastes run toward pop-country sirens like Linda Davis and Lee Ann Womack, New Traditionalists like Randy Travis, or Nashville rebels Steve Earle, Jack Ingram and Chris Knight, you'll find something here to catch your ear. The theme linking these diverse artists is that evergreen Country character, the trucker. Like the film, this soundtrack centers around the trials and tribulations of the man behind the big rig.
