Performer: Chart Toppers/Various Artists
Distributor: EMI Music Distribution Notes: This is part of Priority Records' Chart Toppers series. Personnel: Bobby Vinton (vocals). Priority's Chart Toppers series is an excellent budget-line collection, offering a strong selection of 15 original hits, grouped by a specific theme and decade, on each disc. Chart Toppers: Romantic Hits of the 60s combines rock & roll, girl groups, soul, pop and easy listening hits -- an eclectic bunch, to say the least, but the variety helps capture the feeling of the decade. A few of the songs haven't dated well, but for the most part, the selection of songs is terrific, albeit a little predictable. Among the highlights on the disc are Henry Mancini's "Moon River," the Association's "Cherish," the Shirelles' "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," the Mamas & the Papas' "Dedicated to the One I Love," We Five's "You Were on My Mind," Jackie DeShannon's "Put a Little Love in Your Heart," Paul & Paula's "Hey Paula," Betty Everett and Jerry Butler's "Let It Be Me," Brian Hyland's "Sealed with a Kiss," Percy Faith's "Theme from 'A Summer Place'," Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman" and Bobby Vinton's "Blue Velvet." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
