Or so you would think after checking out this forgettable 16-track set inspired by the television series Touched By an Angel. Except for an oddly out of place Bob Dylan (whose "Dignity" first appeared on the third volume of his greatest hits in a more expansive form), most of the artists contained herein (Wynonna, Deana Carter, Amy Grant, and Faith Hill among them) are Nashville faves with, one would assume, a penchant for things angelic. Shawn Colvin, Imani Coppola, and Keb' Mo' are here because they share Angel's record company; their songs have little to do with cherubs and such. Leave the spiritual stuff to Celine Dion with God's Property, Wynonna as "Audrey," and cast member Della Reese (with the Verity All Stars. They're heavenly, bombastic, and...bland as hell. ~ Michael Gallucci The TV series TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL is centered around the idea that the divine is intertwined with the earthly on a regular basis. The show's soundtrack, therefore, searches out a musical common ground between mortal soul and immortal inspiration. Naturally, such an endeavor includes some contemporary Gospel (Della Reese's "Walk With You," "Celine Dion's "Love Can Move Mountains"). The surprise here is the uncommon spirituality radiated by the more secular artists here (Keb' Mo', Shawn Colvin). Dylanologists won't be able to resist "Dignity," featured here in an alternate version to the one featured on Dylan's GREATEST HITS VOL. 3.
