Q (5/99, p.108) - 3 Stars (out of 5) - "...firmly rooted in jazz, funk and Brit-soul....some skittery drum 'n' bass beats...samba workout...and more than a hint of Portishead...but the old-school grooves still shine brightest..."
Masterminded by sonic guru Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick, Incognito was one of the most prominent British acid-jazz acts of the 1990s. Deftly blending jazz, R&B, soul, and funk, the ensemble--which has included vocalists Maysa Leak and Jocelyn Brown, among others--excelled at smooth tunes equally suited for the club or the lounge. While the group's heyday was the early `90s, Maunick remained active in subsequent years, issuing well-received outings such as 2003's WHO NEEDS LOVE and 2006's ADVENTURES IN BLACK SUNSHINE.
