Performer: Ronnie Milsap
Distributor: BMG Special Products Notes: Personnel: Ronnie Milsap (vocals, piano). The ten-track All American Country collection covers Ronnie Milsap's late-'70s and early-'80s chart-toppers recorded on RCA, including the number one hits "It Was Almost Like a Song," "Only One Love in My Life," "Let's Take the Long Way Around the World," and "I Wouldn't Have Missed It for the World." This affordable disc should please casual fans, but the definitive single-disc compilation encompassing the majority of his hits is Ultimate Ronnie Milsap. ~ Al Campbell BMG Special Products' Only One Love is a good sampling of love songs from Ronnie Milsap's RCA recordings. Many of the songs here are hits, including "Let's Take the Long Way Around the World," "It Was Almost Like a Song, " "Only One Love in My Life, " "I Wouldn't Have Missed It for the World" and "In No Time At All, " and many of the album tracks match their high standards. It remains a sampler more of interest to casual fans looking for just a smattering of hits than to collectors or serious listeners, but it's not a bad choice at all, considering its bargain price. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Born blind, pianist Ronnie Milsap played a soulful, bluesy brand of country music that made him a superstar by the end of the '70s. Milsap was a former sessionman for Elvis Presley, Dionne Warwick and Petula Clark (among others). Milsap's passionate ballads, live shows and reworkings of pop and R&B standards brought him a record number of awards (including six Grammys) and multiplatinum sales. He continued to record and perform into the 2000s.
