Collectables' Millennium Gold, Vol. 1: WCBS collects hits by the Four Seasons, Gladys Knight, Ritchie Valens, the Isley Brothers, Chuck Berry, and the Platters. An adequate sampler for anyone with a casual interest in oldies. ~ Heather Phares Twenty-five oldies that make for perfect party music. With the majority of tunes here from the 1950s ("At the Hop," "In the Still of the Night," "Johnny B. Goode"), the transfers stay astonishingly clear and mix well with the later tracks ("Midnight Train to Georgia," "The Worst That Could Happen"), all of them in true stereo. A real no-brainer compilation that nicks the inside corner of the plate just fine. A great disc in the car, too. ~ Cub Koda It's difficult to make a connection between the music on Millennium Gold, Vol. 1 and the turning of the millennium, except that the compilation happened to be released around that time. Nevertheless, it's a pretty solid collection of oldies-radio staples that doesn't aim to draw a portrait of any specific kind of music, but rather to assemble a group of catchy, familiar songs in one place. Artists present include Ritchie Valens, Chuck Berry, the Isley Brothers, the Platters, the Four Seasons, Gladys Knight and the Pips, the Drifters, the Tokens, and the Dixie Cups, among others. ~ Steve Huey Collectables' Millennium Gold, Vol. 1: JMK collects hits by the Four Seasons, Gladys Knight, Ritchie Valens, the Isley Brothers, Chuck Berry, and the Platters.
