It's a bit absurd to think that this brief ten-song collection actually features the best of Southern blues, although all of the tracks included are certainly good ones, particularly Lightnin' Hopkins' "Found My Baby Crying," a loping version of Elmore James doing his signature "Dust My Broom" and a powerful "My Baby" by Lowell Fulson. Throw in solid cuts by Memphis Slim, T-Bone Walker and Bobby Rush and a nice little sequence takes shape, but it hardly adds up to an essential Southern blues record. ~ Steve Leggett
