Performer: Various Artists
Distributor: Universal Distribution Notes: Compilation producers: Pat Lawrence, Mike Ragogna, Dana Smart. Includes liner notes by Sal Nunziato. Digitally remastered by David Shultz (DigiPrep Mastering, Hollywood, California). This is part of MCA's 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection series. The Best Of The '60s: The Millennium Collection attempts to capture the decade in a dozen songs, including Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild," the Angels' "My Boyfriend's Back," and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World." Fontella Bass' "Rescue Me," the Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'," the Supremes' "You Can't Hurry Love," and Joe Cocker's "A Little Help From My Friends" are some of the other highlights of this collection, which tries to span everything from pop to Motown to acid rock to classic rock, but just lacks the scope to really define the '60s. Still, even though it doesn't quite live up to its name, The Best of The '60s: The Millennium Collection is a decent compilation of some of the decade's biggest hits. ~ Heather Phares
