"One More Day" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Awards for Best Country Performance by A Duo Or Group With Vocal and for Best Country Song. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel: Marty Roe (vocals); Jimmy Olander (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Gene Johnson (mandolin); Dan Truman (keyboards); Dana Williams (bass guitar); Brian Prout (drums). Diamond Rio's seventh album was delayed for months due to record company politics, and underwent a name change in the process--from STUFF to ONE MORE DAY. The new title's a better fit, since this fine collection is much more than a bunch of "stuff." Once again, the six-man band shows its prodigious talent, tackling an impressive range of musical styles with an unmatched level of musicianship. With neck-snapping versatility, the band moves from bluegrass ("Hearts Against the Wind") to a Mavericks-style surf groove ("I Think I Love You"); from humor ("Stuff") to heartbreak ("'Til the Heartaches Gone."). The title track is a gem of a tearjerker that recalls the group's 1998 smash "You're Gone," while on "Here I Go Falling," vocalist Marty Roe manages to make that corniest of country conventions--a recitation--sound completely natural. But the true standout is a duet with Chely Wright, "I'm Trying," which paints a vivid portrait of a couple torn apart by alcoholism. Give Diamond Rio credit for tackling a once-standard country topic that practically became taboo in the late '90s, and extra credit for adding Wright to the mix. Whatever you call it, ONE MORE DAY is good stuff.
Entertainment Weekly (2/9/01, p.79) - "...With their twangy lead vocals, gospel-based harmonies and exemplary instrumental picking...[they] prove again why they're one of the few standout Nashville bands..." - Rating: B
