For those who haven't been counting, THIS IS THE MOMENT represents approximately the fourth stage in Donny Osmond's musical life. The first was his work with the Osmond Brothers, the second his partnership with sister Marie, while his first "comeback" occurred with his pop-R&B solo smash "Soldier of Love." Over a decade later, he returned again, this time reincarnated as a hip interpreter of songs from contemporary, pop-oriented Broadway musicals. You won't hear any constipated crooning of songs from CATS here; instead, Osmond offers a funky version of "Seasons of Love" from RENT, a dance-pop take on "No Matter What" from WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND, and a good natured, synth-colored romp with Rosie O'Donnell through TOY STORY's "You've Got a Friend in Me." Osmond even reaches back to the classic musical GUYS & DOLLS for an angular, funky update of "Luck Be a Lady," aptly demonstrating both his originality and his sense of history.
