Since the early 1990s, Victor Manuelle's music has been a source of joy for salsa fans, and in 2001, he stands as one of the most compelling arguments that salsa did not die along with Tito Puente. With INSTINTO Y DESEO, another in a long line of impressive releases, Manuelle stands poised to bring the music into the 21st century. That's not to say that he's made the kind of pop crossover moves that contributed to the sucess of Enrique Iglesias, Marc Anthony, etc. Manuelle is proud of his old-school salsa roots, and his music bears a classic tinge that has little to do with what the mainstream has come to think of as Latin pop. Still, Manuelle is not stuck in the past, and every cut on INSTINTO Y DESEO bears a freshness that immediately puts the lie to any claims of anachronism.
