Notes: Personnel: Dan Wagner (keyboards); James Kottak (drums). Audio Mixer: Danny Parker. Recording information: Fish Eye Studios; Hot Box Audio. Covered Dead or Alive: Bon Jovi Tribute is a 12-song tribute to Bon Jovi, performed by a variety of metal vocalist mainstays. Jani Lane turns in a pretty good version of "Lay Your Hands on Me," while Jizzy Pearl sullies up "Bad Medicine" with little bit of added grit. Alex Mitchell (Circus of Power) seems to have the verses of "Runaway" down pat, and there's no denying the song's keyboard-heavy hook. Even so, he can't quite muster the mixture of charisma and hooks that made Bon Jovi stars. The same goes for much of the material here which is, at its weakest, fair to middling hard rock, and at its best, a faithful, if workmanlike, appreciation. While Kelly Hanson's take on "You Give Love a Bad Name" is solidly performed, it's a two-dimensional representation of the original track, with no identity of its own. Covered Dead or Alive might offer Bon Jovi completists, or fans of the rockers participating here, something worthwhile, but for the most part it has little to say. ~ Johnny Loftus
