Do You Know the Way to San Jose? - (with Dionne Warwick/Martha Stewart Living)

Performer: Martha Stewart Living/Various Artists
Producer: Julie D'Angelo (Compilation) Distributor: WEA (Distributor) Notes: This is part of Rhino Records MARTHA STEWART LIVING series. Audio Remasterer: Dave Schultz. Rhino's Martha Stewart Living: In the Summertime is a disc that's designed for an occasion, not a disc for listening. In this case, it's for, as the title says, summertime living, which means outside parties -- and this is a package for a suburban summer party, complete with recipes and crafts. So, the music is almost secondary to that, but it's nevertheless a pretty good, breezy collection, containing not just obvious selections ("Sunshine Superman," "Groovin'," "Cruisin'," "Dancing in the Moonlight," "Under the Boardwalk"), but unfamiliar items from Paul Simon, k.d. lang, Victoria Williams, and Marshall Crenshaw, plus a taste of Bebel Gilberto and the Manhattan Transfer. This still is hardly an album for record collectors or music buffs, but if this record sounds like a fun time to you, you'll likely be satisfied. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
