Tribute 2 Prince: Sexykinkyjazzysmooth features a number of musicians interpreting some of Prince's better-known hits from the '80s. You get plenty of favorites -- "Purple Rain," "When Doves Cry," "Little Red Corvette," "Pop Life" -- as well as plenty of songs that were never big hits for Prince: "Anotherloverholenyohead," "Rock Hard in a Funky Place," "Girls and Boys," "Hot Thing," and so on. It's these latter, lesser-known songs that prove most interesting here. The musicians seem more willing to head towards the fringes rather than on the better-known songs like "When Doves Cry," where the musicians seem hesitant to depart too far from the original. Overall, an interesting listen at the least. Prince fans should be engaged by the liberties these musicians take, and anyone with a taste for jazz should savor the approaches. ~ Jason Birchmeier
