Performer: The Jordanaires
Distributor: Bayside Record Dist. Notes: The Jordanaires are best known as the vocal backing group for Elvis Presley (not to mention their work with a dizzying number of country artists), but they had a long career on their own as well. While the famed vocal quartet has easily traversed country, gospel, pop, and rock & roll at various points over the years, BEST OF THE JORDANAIRES: WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN finds them sticking to their roots. It's strictly the essentials here, as the Jordanaires lend their luminous, tight-as-a-drum harmonies to some of the most beloved tunes in the hymnal. From the hopeful "Peace in the Valley" to the jubilant, celebratory "How Great Thou Art," this is the sound of the Jordanaires doing what they do best.
Perhaps best known as Elvis Presley's backing singers from the 1950s through the mid-'60s, this vocal quartet had a robust career of their own. Like many country/gospel artists of the era, they got their first big break on the Grand Ole Opry and Louisiana Hayride programs in the late '40s, and recorded several albums of spine-tingling inspirational music. They have also backed many other country stars, such as Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves. Although their lineup has changed several times since their inception, the group continues to record and perform their uplifting four-part harmony, treating audiences to a precious musical tradition that is fast becoming an anomaly.
