Performer: Various Artists

The phrase "back in the day" gets tossed around so casually that it's sometimes hard to differentiate what is and what isn't "old school" at times. However, there's no question that this is the sixth installment of Old School Rap. Starting off immediately with the classic anthem "King of Rock" by Run-D.M.C. and De La Soul's "Me, Myself and I," the collection sifts through the hits (both commercial and artistic) of the era with great accuracy. While the end songs tend to give the compilation a feeling of deflation, overall the compilation is solid and a truly accurate representation of what the phrase "old school" truly means. ~ Rob Theakston
