Whisper is an entertaining walk through some of the Cure's best-known material. The violins weep, the viola and cello yearn, and together the instruments tumble their way through classics like "Pictures of You," "Just Like Heaven," and "Boys Don't Cry" with the same campy sentimentality that typified the originals. "The Love Cats" is best. As the cello drips a come-hither backbeat, the violins skip and dance over the top, clearly enjoying the song's Tin Pan Alley arrangement. In this version, the song could be a sleazy Fosse outtake. Essential listening for any Cure aficionado. ~ Johnny Loftus
