Whether or not a live-action version of the classic cartoon Scooby-Doo featuring Freddie Prinze, Jr. with a bad blonde dye job turns out to be delight or dud will be left to the ages. At the very least the accompanying soundtrack comes through with an interesting mix of rock, pop, and rap artists. The cartoon's classic theme song is deconstructed and replayed throughout, and its uses range from the main refrain woven through the syncopated dancehall-pop of Shaggy's "Shaggy, Where Are You?" to Beyonce Knowles' little sis Solange reconstructing it into an R&B-lite jam called "Thinking About You." Although The Baha Men fall short with a soggy rap-rock reworking called "Scooby D," pop-punks MXPX hit the nail on the head with a charging remake of "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" (The all-time version remains Matthew Sweet's remake on the 1986 alt-pop collection SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS' GREATEST HITS). Other highlights include the Uncle Kracker/Busta Rhymes thumpin' team-up on Whodini's "Freaks Come Out At Night", The Atomic Fireballs' rowdy swing original "Man With The Hex," and "Lil' Romeo's B House," a catchy Lil' Romeo/Master P duet centered on a sample of The Commodores "Brick House."
