Notes: Audio Mixer: Bill Swanson. Recording information: Devil's Night Studios, Detroit, MI. While Pink's 2000 debut was a bona fide hit, it wasn't until 2002's M!ssundaztood that the performer made the record she really wanted to make. A snarling, sexy, and often strikingly personal record, M!ssundaztood established Pink as a Pat Benatar for the new millennium -- an enormous voice and a love of rock & roll, shot through with savvy, technologically advanced production. This tribute to Pink features none of that Pro Tools prowess and little of Pink's vocal chops. But it is imbued with the same gritty, rocking spirit that typifies her best material. "Just Like a Pill," "18 Wheeler," and "Don't Let Me Get Me" are all rendered with teeth-baring sexiness by a troop of unknown studio musicians who perform throughout the record; even the goofy-great gem "Get the Party Started" swaggers with authority. Unfortunately, the strength of Pink's later material casts a shadow over "Most Girls" and "You Make Me Sick," which originally appeared on her pop-soul-flavored, L.A. Reid-produced debut. Nevertheless, Tribute to Pink only further illustrates the strength of the formula applied to the outspoken performer's true debut. ~ Johnny Loftus
