Notes: This release features nine of Madonna's best-known tracks, reimagined by Motor Industries, a faceless Los Angeles electronic collective that nevertheless is a consistent standout on the Vitamin label's numerous collections of electronica. The best thing about The Dancefloor Tribute to Madonna is Motor's patience. Too often, dance remixes simply increase the BPM of a song. The result is usually hyperactive and slap-happy, as if the original track forgot to take its Ritalin. Motor mostly keeps the songs' time signatures intact, but isn't afraid to experiment with ambient beats ("Don't Tell Me"); sexy, Everything but the Girl-style electro-pop ("Justify My Love"); and head-bobbing updates of P-Funk ("Music"). Nothing here matches the production quality or resonance of Madonna's originals, but Motor Industries has definitely pulled some new highs out of her bag of tricks. Their best might be a take on "Erotica" that places the song in a futuristic kasbah, complete with a beat made for belly dancing and robotic blips. ~ Johnny Loftus
