Notes: Performers include: TJ Rehmi, Gus Gus, Jai Uttai, Peter Kater & R. Carlos Nakai, Glen Velez, Dum Dum Project, Craig Kohland, Al Gromer Kahn, Shri Anandi Ma. This delightfully rich set of soothing meditation music and danceable world-beat tunes offers some refreshing surprises. Renowned Vinyasa yoga instructor Shiva Rea compiles satisfying sounds, such as the hypnotic chants of "Prana (Sahana Vavatu)" by Shaman's Dream, the synth-laden Indian vibe of the Dum Dum Project's "Jaia Ganesha," and the skittering beats of Glen Velez's frame drum music in "Third Eye." Rea throws a few curves with the free-form jazzy acoustics on Ben Leinbach and Geoffrey Gordon's "Chigumbo" and the unexpected reggae of Ticklah's "The Dub and the Restless." Of particular note is the wonderful marriage of Native American flute and keyboard music on "Wandering" by R. Carlos Nakai and Peter Kater. Nakai's improvisational flute playing sounds like birds chasing each other in gusts of wind. These selections, which beautifully reflect yoga's spirit of a unified world, are ideal for the varied tempos of a yoga workout.
