This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players. Though he's one of the premier modern interpreters of the Great American Songbook, Michael Feinstein went until 2001 without ever releasing an album featuring symphony orchestra. His intimate, cabaret-bred interpretive style might strike some as an unusual match for full orchestra, but Alan Broadbent's arrangements (and the orchestra's innate gifts) ensure that Feinstein's up-close-and-personal vocal approach is never overwhelmed. Whether delivering a lovelorn ballad like "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry" or getting bold and swinging on "The Best Is Yet To Come," Feinstein glides along smoothly on the sensuous sonic blanket the orchestra provides, making for a rich, distinctive recording.
JazzTimes (7-8/02, p.126) - "...One of his best. This is a looser, easier-going Feinstein with a hint of world-weary vulnerability..."
