Liner Note Author: Frank Cody. Recording information: 2002-2003. Jazz Alliance International is a nonprofit organization that works to educate the public about jazz and to make life a little easier for its performers. This CD, which has selections from 14 different groups of musicians that fall into the smooth jazz style, consists of music that had been put out previously on individual sets. An excellent sampling of the current smooth scene, this disc has easy listening performances by such notables as guitarist Norman Brown (sounding a bit like Wes Montgomery on "Just Chillin'"), Norah Jones (her hit "Don't Know Why"), pianist Joe Sample, Al Jarreau, and Fourplay, among others. The overall set will not win converts to the music from the straight-ahead jazz world, but it serves as a fine introduction to smooth jazz for those unfamiliar with the very accessible music. ~ Scott Yanow
