This is part of RCA Victor's Entertaining Made Simple series. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Liner Note Author: Andrea Immer. Recording information: MBM, New York, NY. Photographer: Dorothy Low. Big Reds, Bistro & Ballads is an installment in BMG's Entertaining Made Easy series. The disc is presented by perky celebrity chef Andrea Immer and features a booklet with recipes, entertaining tips, and essays and an enhanced portion with more recipes and how-to demos with Immer as well as some music. The mood of the music reflects that of the menu Immer has prepared, sophisticated and relaxed. The songs all come from the RCA catalog and feature ballads from artists both old and new. Old-timers include Duke Ellington doing "I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)" with the always smooth Johnny Hodges on alto, Chet Baker breezing his way through "These Foolish Things," and Sonny Rollins caressing "My Ship." The new crew is represented by Mulgrew Miller, Don Braden (doing a passable job on Coltrane's "After the Rain"), Tom Harrell, and Dave Douglas among others. The music is well-chosen for the kind of romantic evening Immer has in mind, and the whole package is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to entertain just like the big-time swells do. As a strictly musical compilation it falls short on the excitement scale, but with a package like this, it isn't really about the music. ~ Tim Sendra
