Notes: Moe: Chuck Garvey, Al Schnier (vocals, guitar); Rob Derhak (vocals, bass); Vinnie Amico (drums). Recorded live at Vic Theatre, Chicago, Illinois on November 13, 1998. The highlight of this triple-disc concert recording -- the third installment in moe.'s Warts & All series -- arrives during the first set, when the band barrels through the interconnected 1-2-3 punch of "Timmy Tucker," "California," and "Moth" with cohesion and guitar-driven energy. Although "Timmy Tucker" seems to be somewhat omnipresent throughout the Warts series, having shown up in the previous two volumes as well, this version pre-dates the other renditions by several years. The accompanying vintage appeal is what makes Vol. 3 so enjoyable, as it gives fans a glimpse into the band's past with crisp, hi-fi sound quality and an unpredictable set list. A particularly strong "Rebubula" concludes the show, beginning with a talkbox guitar intro and ending with extended soloing and happily sloppy harmonies. ~ Andrew Leahey
